San Francisco International Airport Security and Special Systems Communications Center Expansion

As a prime joint venture partner with DMJM Aviation and Cabellon, Mendoza & Associates provided construction management and engineering services associated with design and construction of the security and special systems facilities, which totaled $300 million. Mendoza & Associates provided management, prepared and monitored master plan scheduling, cost controls, office engineering, progress payment request review, change order review and processing, claims review, and inspections. In addition, we helped create a database to capture daily extra work billing information on force account change orders. This database saved the airport more than $2 million in daily extra work bills that were overstated.

Mendoza & Associates was responsible for coordinating and managing the engineering, construction, and installation of three Building Security Systems and Terminal Management Systems. The installation required coordination of 18 different systems, including explosive detection, security zone door status and alarms, passenger screening, multiple voice communication systems and fire protection in the Terminal Building, boarding areas, parking garages, and a communications center. Our firm also successfully managed and coordinated implementation of the new security systems into the new airport rapid transit system (Air Train) and incoming Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). Mendoza & Associates was also responsible for coordinating the operations of several contractors and subcontractors amidst the thousands of daily travelers at the airport with minimal disruptions to travelers and airport operations.
